"In
1977 a progressive publisher emerged from the House
of Zonk. This is the story of the commitment that
has
kept them going for nearly 25
years"
So begins a recent profile of Between the Lines
published in Regina's Briarpatch
magazine.* Twenty-five years. Ups and downs. Many,
many, great books. Our ability to survive, even
thrive, is cause for celebration.
If you're reading this web site chances are you've
played a big role in supporting us-as a bookseller,
librarian, journalist, college or university
teacher, union educator, activist, or just plain
old book lover.
So, in thanks to all our supporters we've planned
birthday events throughout the year. Please join us
when you can to celebrate this achievement in
Canadian publishing. Our events
page will have all the details as the year
unfolds.
* To hear the whole story of Zonk, as told by Jamie
Swift, see Briarpatch's
December 2001 issue.

Thanks and Kudos
Our ability to publish lively, intelligent, and
radically important books could not have been
achieved without the assistance of our supporters
and suppliers.
Thanks to University of Toronto Distribution, to
our ever enthusiastic sales people at Fernwood
Books, ably led by Errol Sharpe, and to the skilled
professionals who print our books.
Our Sales and Promotion committee is a constant
source of help and inventive ideas, so thanks to
Matt Adams, Mary Margaret Crapper, Sarah Elton,
Richard Swift, and Valerie Wint. Much
appreciated.
Thanks finally to the citizens of Ontario and
Canada for their support through The Ontario Arts
Council, The Canada Council for the Arts, and the
Department of Canadian Heritage.

UPCOMING BOOKS
A
new, completely revised edition of Getting
Started on Social Analysis in
Canada
is in the works. For more than fifteen
years this book by Michael Czerny, Jamie Swift, and
Robert Clarke has proved itself a perennial
favourite for students in high schools, colleges,
and universities. Teachers have widely adopted its
three editions, right across Canada. We can't let
this book go stale or out of print. We are bringing
it up-to-date and incorporating new developments so
that it reflects the issues facing today's
students.
